I was gifted this little wooden school desk and chair. Cute, right? It was sturdy, but the finish was in rough shape, so I gave it a makeover!
First, I wiped it all down with a micro fiber cloth and water. Then I painted it in Old Town Paints ‘Country Whisper’. This is a chalk style paint, so I didn’t need to sand the piece before painting. Love that! I put on 2 coats of the Country Whisper.
I really wanted to keep this piece simple, but add something fun, so I added the 2+2=4. Since I have a screen printing and embroidery business, I used Corel Draw to create the graphic and then cut the stencil out on my cutter.
Next I painted on the 2+2=4 in Old Town Paints, Cast Iron. After that was dry I gave it a good distressing using 220 grit sandpaper. I sealed it with Annie Sloan’s Clear Wax.
And here’s how it turned out.
I just love that chair!
I decided to keep the inside of the desk, the original stain, I like the contrast!
Because I plan on it being a decor piece vs using it as a desk, I waxed it. If it were going to be used as a desk, I would have used poly on it.
